Legal Framework

This document serves as the foundational agreement governing your engagement with the Camera Backpackers archive. It establishes a covenant of mutual respect, detailing the responsibilities inherent in accessing, utilizing, and contributing to the collective digital memory of our heritage. We invite you to review these principles carefully, as they are designed to protect both the historical integrity of the collection and the rights of our community of scholars and citizens.

01/

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing, browsing, or utilizing any portion of the Camera Backpackers platform, including its digital archives and scholarly essays, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. This agreement constitutes a legally binding contract between you and Camera Backpackers.

If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you must abstain from utilizing the platform. The custodians of the archive reserve the right to amend these terms periodically; continued use following such amendments signifies your acceptance of the revised framework.

02/

Intellectual Property

The architectural structure of the platform, alongside the curated digitized manuscripts, proprietary scholarly commentary, and institutional imagery, remain the exclusive intellectual property of Camera Backpackers. These materials are protected under applicable copyright and intellectual property legislation.

Content specifically identified as part of the "Public Domain Archive" may be utilized in accordance with its respective open-access licensing. However, the unique digital representations, metadata, and contextual framing provided by our curators must be appropriately cited in any academic or public discourse.

03/

User Conduct

Engagement with the archive is expected to reflect the scholarly and respectful ethos of the platform. Users must interact with the digital artifacts, community forums, and other members ethically and courteously.

  • Prohibition against the use of automated data extraction tools (scrapers, bots) that may compromise the integrity or availability of the archival servers.
  • Strict interdiction of any attempts to alter, deface, or otherwise manipulate the historical records presented.
  • Commitment to engaging in constructive dialogue within the Community sections, free from vitriol or ahistorical revisionism intended to provoke.

04/

Content Submission

We value the oral histories, personal photographs, and familial documents contributed by citizens to enrich the collective memory of Aligarh. By submitting content through the contribute portal or other means, you represent that you hold the necessary rights to said material.

Upon submission, you grant Camera Backpackers a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to digitize, catalog, display, and distribute the contributed artifacts within the context of the archive. The moral rights of the original creators will be acknowledged and preserved to the fullest extent possible within the metadata.

05/

Limitation of Liability

The archival materials are provided "as is," representing historical records that may contain perspectives or data reflecting the era of their creation. Camera Backpackers makes no warranties regarding the absolute accuracy, completeness, or contemporary validity of historical documents, particularly those sourced from community submissions or unverified personal ledgers.

In no event shall the platform, its curators, or affiliated institutions be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from reliance upon the information contained within the archive.
